September Has Arrived!!
(and so have the poetry prompts!)
As we all know, Instagram has an amazing writing community full of incredible poets and a lot of these amazing poets and writing communities put up a list of prompts for each month. I absolutely adore these! I know we’re already 5 days in (sorry for being a bit late) but I promise these prompts are so good you’ll catch up easily! So here are some that have gone up for the month of September that I think you guys would like to check out!
The first set of prompts is by Courtney Phillips Story Telling. I just posted a blog post about her first prompt for the month of September, “What is poetry?” I loved it so much and created a piece that I have to say is one of my favorites as of right now. I haven’t always been a big fan of prompts, but Courtney’s 30 day prompts are amazing and I cannot wait to dive into all of them! Down below, I have also shared the other sets of prompts that Courtney currently has up on her page which are two sets that she put up as “extra prompts” and also her August list of prompts. All of these prompts are unique and fun, I also adore the artwork that she created for each set of prompts; they’re so gorgeous!
The second set of prompts is by L.T. Pelle. This poet is incredible! Her account is one of my favorites, she always has little prompts within her posts that are fantastic! This time she put together these beautiful photos and put them up on her story, as well as adding them to her highlights. She is also partnering up with Pen & Pendulum which is an amazing writing community within Instagram that supports and loves on writers! This account is so amazing as they are really here to help all kinds of poets shine. They give out free features, hold contests, and more! The team that runs P&P is a great one! Together L.T. Pelle and P&P are hosting this prompt all month and there is also a giveaway going on!
The third set of prompts is by Jasmine S Higgins. These prompts are a little different, straying away from any fall themes and instead diving into some more unusual prompts like milk teeth, doll house, and cartoon. I thought these were super interesting and could make for some awesome new poetry! I have been really trying to dive into more poetry prompts to practice writing more outside of my comfort zone! Sometimes we get stuck in a rut of writing a lot of things in the same ways or with the same kind of themes and prompts are an amazing way to get out of that funk. Especially if they are a little (or a lot) different than topics or words you usually write about or use in your poetry!
The fourth set of prompts is by Anne Sparow and Mei (Lipstick and Miracles) and it is very beautifully fall themed which I adore! Fall is my favorite season and I think they chose incredible words that fit the theme nicely but are not too common or redundant from typical fall themed prompts. This one is laid out for three months of prompts which I thought was amazing! Both Anne and Mei have gorgeous Instagram profiles so be sure to check them out too! Anne’s rainbow vintage aesthetic is one of my favorites that I’ve come across and Mei’s gold brushed poems are so stunning!
The fifth and last set of prompts I’m going to share with you guys are from Starlit Poems. I adore their page and the prompts are very different from all the other prompts I’ve shared with you so far, making it the perfect set to end with! If you love stars, space, astronomy, etc, you will love these prompts! There are so many ways to use this pretty prompts to create some amazing new poetry. Plus why not make it into a relaxing session? Maybe sit down and stargaze a bit before picking up a pen and writing your heart out! Starlit Poems is a community page that features all kinds of writer’s work and is run by one of my favorite starry eyed poets, September Stardust. She is amazing as well, so don’t forget to check out her page!
Thanks for reading! I hope you guys enjoy all these beautiful prompts! If you know of or have any other prompts that you think I’d like (or others would) please comment below so I can check them out!! I will share them on my Instagram story to get the word out!
