Book Review: Unreleased “DARLING” by Courtney Phillips.

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I’ve been looking forward to posting this review of DARLING for about a week now and looking forward to reading this collection for even longer than that because I know Courtney has been working hard; putting her heart and soul into it! Courtney Phillip’s has become such an inspiration to me in the past few months and I felt so excited and truly honored to be given a free copy of her latest poetry collection, DARLING, in return for an honest review.

I’m going to jump right into this because wow! When I opened up DARLING, I was expecting magic. Courtney has a beautiful way of creating masterpieces out of her words, ones that will pull on your heart strings and make you feel heard. I expected no less from her when it came to this book and she didn’t let me down. This collection is not only full of magic, love, and happiness but it also contains so much depth. She dives bravely into trauma, abuse, heartbreak and more which was a little unexpected for me but resonated so much that I was in tears.

In this collection, Courtney brings us through living. She paints life in beautiful and unique metaphors that leave you in awe. Her heart sliced wide open for you to look into and fall in love with. This is not a small collection. It’s 300+ pages will take you some time, some tissues, and some coffee (or tea) to get through but I promise you will love every second of it. This book is an emotional journey that is so incredibly powerful, healing, and full of love.

She touches on so many topics throughout this book including feminism, mental health, being apart of the LGBTQ community, as well as all of the other topics I have listed above. Here is a poem that I wanted to share with you a little early (with permission from Courtney!) because it is so amazing and important that we have writers out here sharing their truths. This piece is not only is full of mentions of mental health struggles but is also full of what it means to be a woman, in a world full of “be pretty and quiet.”

Courtney is such a huge advocate for those who struggle with mental illness, the LGBTQ community, as well as those who have suffered at the hands of inequalities and abuse. You can clearly see her passion throughout this magical collection of poetry which is why I absolutely recommend, DARLING, as well as Courtney’s other five books. This young writer is wise beyond her years and needs to be on your reading list. I’m not going to say much more because I want you to pick it up and feel the magic and healing for yourself so go and grab a copy from Amazon on February 14th, 2020!

Make sure to follow Courtney on Instagram because she still has a LOT of things coming this year!! She is on fire and I promise you will not want to miss out on any of her projects.
